Incorporating New Habits for a Healthy Life

By Rey Vetangelo

It is not uncommon for many people, both male and female, to gain several pounds during their first year at college. This could be due to a change in eating habits, sleep deprivation, stress, drinking, or a number of other factors.

However, one important thing to keep in mind is that it is not inevitable-it can be avoided with the right habit changes, and attention to your fitness.

This is not to say that you should be dieting and worrying about your weight all the time, instead of having fun.

It simply comes down to a logical way of exercising, eating smart, and taking care of yourself. F you are careful to do these things, you can stay looking and feeling great, instead of whining about your weight gain when the summer months roll around.

One of the first and most important things you can do is to change your attitude toward food, and about eating in general. Being away from home for the first time is difficult for everyone, and loneliness and stress can lead to comfort eating.

When you are in an unfamiliar setting it is not difficult to turn to food for a little extra comfort. Train yourself to eat only when you are truly hungry, and not to meet any emotional needs you may be feeling.

There are better ways to deal with the change of emotions-trying working out on a treadmill, talking to a friend, calling family, watching a favorite movie, or just getting out into nature. Food no longer has to be the answer to your problems-it only become inches on your hips and waist!

Next, make sure that you find healthy ways to deal with stress. Stress is a very common part of the transition to college, and everyone experiences it as some point.

Learning how to deal with it effectively can keep you from gaining weight. After all, stress tends to lower our metabolism, and our ability to lose weight.

Try to de-stress your schedule, and cut out any unnecessary activities that may be taking too much time in your schedule. Trying working out when you are stressed-taking a run on the treadmill is a great way to relieve any stress you may be feeling from school.

One of the best ways to stress-proof your body is by eating a healthy diet. Make sure that you get enough sleep every night, so that you are able to better deal with the stressful events of the day.

Eat healthy foods that will keep your blood pressure down, while giving you energy. When things become too overwhelming, call a close friend or family member for a little talk time.

Connecting with others can do wonders when it comes to stress relief. It can also help to keep off those unnecessary pounds.

There are many people that do not realize the physical repercussions that can occur if they gain too much weight. There are many negative repercussions that can occur and you should be sure that you understand the severity of continually gaining too much weight.

If you gain too much weight you may need a surgery to recover. As you are looking into your surgical options you have to make sure that you are going to ask about any type of electro surgery.

When you look into electro surgical tools you want to make sure that you are going to realize any benefits and risks associated. Take time to talk to your doctor about the differences between electro surgeries and surgeries that do not require electro surgical tools.

While you take time to find the surgery that is right for you, you may be able to minimize your healing time. Be sure that you understand how you can get a second opinion to ensure that you are getting all of the facts necessary.

Make sure that you take the time that you need to make your decision wisely. And, if at all possible, it is important that you understand how you are going to be wise about avoiding the surgeries and health problems that come with gaining too much weight.
